Based at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, Jet Airways is India's second biggest carrier. In addition to Mumbai, it also has operating hubs in Kolkata, Amsterdam, Brussels, Chennai, Delhi and Bengaluru. Jet Airways was founded in 1992 and was at one time the largest airline in India, but has since been surpassed by IndiGo. The airline boosted its growth by buying out Air Sahara in 2007.
Jet Airways uses its fleet of more than 110 ATR, Airbus and Boeing planes to serve over 60 destinations in countries across Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East, with flights to Delhi, Amsterdam and Berlin being the most popular for the airline. Jet Airways sought to join the Star Alliance but was not successful. There are a number of airlines around the world that have codeshare agreements with the company, including Air Berlin, Air Canada, Delta Air Lines and Etihad Airways.
Online check-in
Individuals and groups of up to 9 passengers can check in for their Jet Airways flight online, as long as they have no more than 4 flight segments on their booking. Depending on the passenger's destinations and ticket type, the online check-in opens between 48 and 24 hours ahead of a flight's departure and closes again 1 or 2 hours prior to takeoff. Online check in is not available for all airports served by Jet Airways, so passengers should check this in advance. When they've checked in successfully, passengers will receive an e-boarding card, which will be sent to them via email.
Hand luggage allowance
Hand luggage allowances on Jet Airways flights vary depending on the aircraft type, ticket class and the flight route. In most instances, passengers will have a hand luggage allowance of at least 1 item with a maximum weight between 7 kg and 10 kg, plus a maximum size limit of 55 x 35 x 25 cm or 55 x 35 x 20 cm. As well as this allowance, passengers may also bring a personal item such as a garment bag, laptop bag, umbrella, walking stick, handbag, wheelchair or camera bag. Infants are allowed to bring a collapsible pram. Luggage exceeding these allowances must be checked in to the aircraft's hold.
Checked baggage policy
As with hand luggage, a Jet Airways flight's checked luggage allowance varies depending on ticket type, aircraft and destination, however for most flights, the allowances are as follows. For Economy passengers, the checked baggage allowance will have a maximum weight of 30 kg, while Premiere passengers are allowed 40 kg of checked luggage. First class passengers have a checked baggage allowance of 50 kg. The maximum size for any single item of baggage on a Jet Airways flight is 158 cm in combined length, width and height. The company will accept various types of sporting equipment as checked baggage and will count it towards a passenger's existing allowance.
