Aegean Airlines

Flying with Aegean Airlines

Aegean Airlines is a Greek airline founded in 1987 with headquarters situated in Athens, Greece. This airline operates from its 3 main hubs at Athens International Airport and ThessaloNiki International Airport in Greece, plus Lamaca International Airport in Cyprus. The centre in Cyprus has helped to fill the void left by the termination of Cyprus Airways. Aegean Airlines flies to over 140 destinations worldwide and boasts a fleet of approximately 50 aircraft. Since 2010, the company has been a Star Alliance member. Codeshare agreements include partnerships with airlines such as Air Canada, Etihad Airways, Tap Portugal, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa.

In 2013, Aegean Airlines purchased Olympic Air, however both airlines continue to fly with their own brand names. The company flights include several domestic and international destinations. French destinations include Nice, Paris and Toulouse, while Aegean Airlines flights to German destinations include Berlin, Hamburg and Frankfurt.

Online check-in

Passengers can check in to Aegean flights online by using a computer, mobile phone or tablet. Online check-in is available 48 hours prior to the departure of the flight and remains open until up to 30 minutes prior to the flights scheduled take-off time. In order to check in, passengers must enter their ticket number or booking reference as well as their surname. By checking in online, passengers can select where they would like to sit and receive their boarding pass in order to print it off. It is also possible for passengers to save their boarding pass on a mobile phone. On the date of departure, passengers who have checked in online and who are not travelling with any hold luggage can proceed directly to the gate.

Hand luggage allowance

All Aegean Airlines passengers are permitted to take at least 1 piece of cabin baggage with them. Passengers who have booked a GoLight or Flex ticket are allowed to take 1 piece of hold luggage as long as it does not weigh more than 8 kg and is not larger than 56 x 45 x 25 cm. Business class passengers are allowed an additional item of luggage weighing up to 5 kg, no larger than 45 x 35 x 20 cm.

Larger pieces of hand luggage must be stored in the overhead lockers while smaller pieces of luggage can be stored under the seat in front of the passenger. Baggage that exceeds the allowed requirements may have to be placed in the cargo hold.

Checked baggage policy

A passenger's checked baggage allowance is dependent on the type of ticket they purchased as well as the passenger's route. Economy GoLight passengers travelling on an Aegean flight are not allowed to take any hold baggage whereas Economy Flex passengers can take 1 piece of baggage that weighs up to 23 kg, free of charge.

Business class passengers flying on an Aegean flight are allowed 2 pieces of luggage weighing up to 32 kg each. Star Alliance Gold passengers are either allowed to take an additional 20 kg or an additional piece of luggage. This depends on the specific conditions of that flight.
