Cathay Pacific

Flying with Cathay Pacific

Founded in 1946, Cathay Pacific is Hong Kong's national flag carrier and most popular airline, with a central hub located at Hong Kong International Airport. The company has a large number of codeshare agreements with other airlines including Air China, American Airlines, British Airways, Qatar Airways and Japan Airlines. In addition to this, Cathay Pacific also has access to numerous destinations in China through Dragonair, one of its many subsidiaries. It has a large fleet of around 150 aircraft that fly to approximately 175 destinations spread over more than 40 countries around the world. It is part of the oneworld alliance.

Many Cathay Pacific flights travel to American destinations including New York City, San Francisco, Chicago and Miami. Passengers can get a flight with the company to the Australian destinations of Sydney, Perth and Melbourne. The airline also flies to several European destinations such as London and Manchester in the United Kingdom, as well as Milan and Rome in Italy and Madrid in Spain.

Online check-in

All passengers are able to check into a Dragonair or Cathay Pacific flight online. The only exceptions are chartered flights and those operated by partner carriers. Check-in will be open 48 hours before the flights departure and will remain open until 90 minutes prior to take-off time. When checking in online, it is possible to choose a seat or change it if necessary. Passengers can also update their frequent flyer number online. After online check-in has been completed, passengers can print off their boarding pass or send a mobile boarding pass to their smart phones. It is also possible to collect a boarding pass at a check-in kiosk at the airport.

Hand luggage allowance

Cathay Pacific offer different levels of hand baggage allowance depending on the type of ticket class that has been purchased. For Economy Class passengers, 1 piece of hand baggage weighing up to 7 kg is allowed, while Business Class passengers are allowed to take 1 piece of hand luggage weighing up to 10 kg. First Class passengers are allowed to take 1 piece of luggage weighing up to 15 kg. The size of the luggage may not exceed 23 x 36 x 56 cm for all passengers. In addition to the cabin baggage, passengers are allowed to take an additional small item on the aircraft with them such as a handbag, laptop bag, small backpack or briefcase.

Checked baggage policy

There is a variety of check-in baggage allowances depending on the type of Cathay Pacific flight ticket the passenger has purchased. For Economy Class passengers, hold luggage weighing up to 20 kg is allowed while the weight restriction for Premium Economy passengers is 25 kg. Business Class passengers are allowed to take hold baggage weighing up to 30 kg, with First Class passengers allowed to take luggage weighing up to 40 kg. For the majority of destinations there are no restrictions to the amount of bags allowed as long as it does not exceed the weight limitations. Members of the Marco Polo Club are allowed a greater baggage allowance for all flight routes. The rule on what sport equipment is allowed depends on the flight route.
