Flying with Norwegian Air Shuttle

Norwegian Air Shuttle is a low-cost European airline with headquarters located in Fornebu, Norway. It was founded 1993 and is part of the Airlines for Europe alliance. The company has a fleet of more than 100 aircraft that fly to well over 100 destinations primarily in Europe, but also to international hotspots such as to the United States. Norwegian Air Shuttle has a number of operating bases in Europe including Madrid, Copenhagen, Oslo and also London, where its long haul hub can be found. International centres include Bangkok and New York JFK.

Many Norwegian flights travel in and around Europe, including a number of flights to Italian destinations such as Rome, Venice and Pisa, plus the Spanish cities of Palma, Madrid and Lanzarote. The airline also flies to the British destinations of Edinburgh and Birmingham, as well as to its long haul hub at London Gatwick Airport. Other long haul routes include flights to the American destinations of New York City, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Online check-in

Online check-in is available for most Norwegian flights 24 hours prior to the flight departure. There are several ways that passengers can check in to their flight, with one way being to use the SMS ticket they automatically receive a couple of hours before the flight departure. The boarding pass will then be sent directly to the passenger's mobile phone.

Alternatively, the Travel Assistant app can be used to check-in and receive the boarding pass directly to their phone. Passengers can also check in online to get their boarding pass sent to them. It is possible to scan a boarding pass at the airport to get a printed out version.

Hand luggage allowance

Passengers are allowed to take 1 piece of hand baggage on Norwegian flight free of charge. The weight of the baggage allowed depends on the type of ticket purchased. Passengers with Premium, LowFare or LowFare+ tickets are allowed to take up to 10 kg, whereas those with Flex or PremiumFlex tickets can take up to 15 kg. The weight limit for passengers flying to or from Dubai is 8 kg.

The size of the luggage for all passengers may not exceed 55 x 40 x 23 cm. An additional personal item is also allowed to be taken on board. Such items could include a laptop case or handbag. These items should be able to fit under the seat in front of the passenger. Luggage that exceeds the size and weight limitations will be put in the hold and will incur a charge.

Checked baggage policy

The amount of checked baggage allowed depends on the type of ticket the passenger has purchased. LowFare ticket holders are not allowed any free checked baggage while LowFare+ passengers can take 1 piece of luggage weighing up to 20 kg. Flex, Premium and PremiumFlex ticket holders are permitted 2 pieces of luggage weighing up to 20 kg. Luggage may not exceed the maximum dimensions of 250 x 112 x 79 cm. Charges for excess baggage apply to items over the allowed limit. Passengers are able to add additional checked baggage to their booking up to 6 hours prior to departure. This can be done online directly.
